讲座人简介:

Xiao (Matthew) Huis a professor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. He is the Programme Director of the Environmental Chemistry and Materials Programme at NEWRI-NTU, and the founding Director of the RGE-NTU Sustainable Textile Research Centre (SusTex) st NTU. Professor Hu obtained his bachelor's degree from the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University. His master's and PhD degrees are from the University of Manchester, UK. He joined NTU in April 1992 as a founding faculty member of its Materials Engineering programme. He later served as the inaugural Head of Division of Materials Technology upon the establishment of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at NTU.

He was the past president of the Pacific Polymer Federation (PPC) between 2017 and Dec 2019. He is the president designate of the Federation of Asian Polymer Societies (FAPS) from 2025. He is on the editorial board of several journals and is an editor for POLYMER (Elsevier).

Professor Hu has also served as a scientific advisor on nanomaterials and environmental technology for a number of companies, including those based in Austria, China, Germany, Indonesia, Singapore, USA, and Vietnam. He is the scientific advisor of two innovation startup companies, Atera Water Pte Ltd and HyDrGel Pte Ltd. He served as a member of the Future Innovation Advisory Committee of Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI).

His latest passion in the past decade is to tackle emerging and perennial challenges concerning sustainability, materials circularity, agri-food, and water technology using enabling fundamental scientific and engineering principles.
