嘉宾简介：

P.A. Tanner教授，1967年毕业于伦敦大学获化学专业本科学位，1970年获萨里大学硕士学位，1972年获伯明翰大学教育学认证，1980年获伦敦大学化学博士学位，1995年获萨里大学理学博士学位。在伦敦大学完成博士后研究工作后到金斯顿大学工作。1989-2010年任教于香港城市大学；2011-2015年在香港教育学院和University of Kyoto任访问教授；2016年至今在香港浸会大学任兼职教授。在香港地区大气化学及空气污染的分析方法的开发以及镧系离子的光谱和能量传递两个领域培养了20多名博士和硕士；教学方向为仪器分析、光化学分析和环境化学。1991年成为英国皇家化学会会员（1991）。

Optical Materials副主编、Spectroscopy Letter特刊（2004、2007和2010年）编辑，Spectroscopy Letters副主编，Ciencia Abierta高级编辑，和其他几种国际期刊The Open Environmental Pollution & Toxicology Journal、The Open Inorganic Chemistry Journal、The Open Oceanography Journal、Advances in Analytical Chemistry和International Journal of Analytical Chemistry的编委。

在Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.，Chemical Society Review，J Am Chem Soc, Phys Rev B和J Phys Chem等SCI期刊上发表论文290余篇。自2000年以来组织国际会议19余次，自1990年以来做邀请报告、国际会议大会报告、国际会议报告240余次，长期任国际期刊和研究项目评审人。

报告摘要:Not only is it difficult to order your research ideas and put them down logically in a manuscript sothat they attract interest, but for Chinese students there is the added problem that English is nottheir mother tongue. Thus, very often, a manuscript is rejected by an Editor solely because theEnglish usage and expression is poor.In this presentation I will cover all of the aspects contained in writing a scientific paper and pointout some of the pitfalls involved. I can’t tell you how to write a really good paper – that mainlydepends upon your science – but I can help you to improve it and not write a bad one.
